No NBA season, no worries, the WORLD TOUR is coming to a city near you, well… not really… The tour, scheduled to begin Oct. 30 and end Nov. 9, will make stops in Puerto Rico, London, Macau, and Australia. Each game will be staged in an arena that holds at least 15,000 fans. Two games each will be played at sites in London and Australia.

The tour would be the biggest lockout event NBA players have ever staged. While locked out in 1998, several stars played an exhibition game in Atlantic City. Current players have staged several charity games over the past month, most notably the “The South Florida All-Star Classic” featuring James and Wade, played in Miami last Saturday.

While the final details are still being worked out, more than a dozen of the league’s best players are working to join forces on what would be a two-week, six-game, four-continent blockbuster tour.

In a trip that could resemble Team USA’s takeover of the world stage at the 2008 Beijing Games, Kobe BryantLeBron JamesDwyane WadeDerrick RoseCarmelo AnthonyChris PaulAmare StoudemireChris BoshRajon RondoBlake GriffinRussell WestbrookCarlos BoozerPaul Pierce and Kevin Love are among the players expected to participate. Kevin Durant and Kevin Garnett, among a few others, are also contemplating joining the tour.

Tyson Chandler also has agreed to participate in the tour.

Atlanta business mogul Calvin Darden has been putting the tour together with the players’ agents for nearly three months. He has already obtained signed contracts from Bryant, Wade, Bosh, Griffin, Rondo and Pierce. Sources say he’s hoping to complete the rest of the agreements, along with insurance requirements, over the next few days. This is the same Darden who was convicted of defrauding 11 victims of roughly $7 million, as well stealing money from securities firms. He was also convicted of stealing $300,000 from former NBA star Latrell Sprewell and $950,000 from rap star Nelly.

Darden is hoping to broadcast the games in as many international markets as possible and perhaps in the United States as well. The players will be paid, receiving salaries ranging from six figures up to $1 million, sources said. Some of the money generated by the tour will be donated to charity. Beyond the salaries the players will receive and the overseas venues, this tour is different in that the rosters will be comprised completely of All-Star caliber players.

Is this the best HS bball class ever in Houston?

There will always be debates about “The Best of All Time”, and what makes these debates tough is that the majority of the time, a comparison is being made about something in different eras.  For at least 10 years there hasn’t been a debate about the best high school basketball class in the history of the city of Houston. The class of 2001 which produced, T.J Ford(Willowridge/Texas), Daniel Ewing(Willowride, Duke), Kenny Taylor(Willowride/Baylor/Texas), Emeka Okafor(Bellaire/UCONN), John Lucas III(Beallaire/Baylor/OK State), Lawrence Roberts(Lamar/Baylor, MISS State), Corey Smith(Lamar/Vanderbilt), Nile Murry(Klein Forrest/Temple/TCU), Marcus Sloan(Eisenhower/TCU), Carlos Hurt(Elsik/Louisville), Dante Stiggers(Hastings/Southern Miss), Jason McCoy(Milby/Rutgers/UWM), and Bryan Shelton(Clear Brook/Houston)Chris Rhodes(Westbury Christian/Ole Miss), and Josh Jones(Westbury/Dilliard) has always been considered THE CLASS! According to most major recruiting services 7 of the aforementioned guys were in the top 100 nationally, http://statsheet.com/bhsb/recruiting_class/2001.  There were at least 4 other players in the class who played division 1 basketball. And in the 2006-2007 NBA season, 5 of these players were on active NBA rosters, and a 6th, Ronnie Price who played at Clear Brook HS, is also a member of the 2001 class. Four of the guys in this class were drafted, and 2 were lottery picks, with TJ Ford and Emeka Okafor both racking up collegiate player of the year awards.  According to Jim Hicks(The God Father of HS basketball in Houston) the 2001 class put the city on the national High School basketball map. Now let’s fast forward to 2012, with the internet taking off, RCS Sports, and YOUTUBE, high school players in Houston are more visible than ever, and Ray Charles can see how visibile the 2012 class is in the national rankings.  Big Cameron Ridley(Bush/Texas) leads the pack, followed by Rasheed Sulaimon( Strake Jesuit/Duke), Danuel House(Hightower/Houston), Shaquille Cleare(The Village School/Maryland), J-Mychal Reese(Bryan/ Yexas A&M), “Chicken” Knowles(Homeschool Christian Youth/Houston), LJ Rose( Westbury Christian/Baylor), and Wannah Bail(Trent Internationale School) all are in the top 100. All of these kids will be playing big time college basketball, and we’ll see how they all turn out, but many people believe that this class will overtake that 2001 class. I might be a little biased, but I don’t think anyone will overtake the ’01 class, but if any class can do it, this is the one that can. Only time will tell!

D Will was all smiles when signed his European deal

Everybody remembers the Keanu Reeves movie right?? Don’t worry I’ll wait… No, not Speed, or either of the Matrix movies, I’m talking about The Replacements! The movie where NFL is locked out and they get all of the replacement players to take their jobs.  Well, many professional basketball players overseas are starting to feel the same way as those NFL guys did in the movie, except the ironic twist is NBA players are starting to replace the overseas guys. I like to call it, the “Trickle Down Effect”. With the NBA lockout still going strong many NBA players are taking their talents… to Europe! (Sorry LeBron) Players such as Deron Williams, Jordan Farmar, Wilson Chandler, and Sonny Weems have already signed contracts this season with European teams.  JR Smith, Kenyon Martin, Cartier Martin and Dan Gadzuric are heading to China to play. And in the next month there are reportedly 30-50 more NBA players that will soon be joining them. What does that mean for the average overseas player?? It means now the ever shrinking job market just got a whole lot smaller. With the news of the NBA lockout European GM’s and President’s now can take a 11th or 12th man on a NBA team as opposed to top overseas players who’ve been playing in Europe for years. So those top overseas players are now taking the job of the middle of the pack overseas player, and the middle of the pack players are taking the lower tier players jobs, and so on and so on, this is the “Trickle Down Effect”.  Also what’s happening is that teams are starting to “low ball” players because they know they can get better players at a cheaper price because of the “Trickle Down Effect”, that coupled with the fact that some “rookies” are playing for  what essentially is the salary of the cashier at McDonald’s!  Several top overseas players, DeWarick Spencer, and Hollis Price for example are being offered salaries significantly lower than normal because teams feel they can get a “NBA player” for that price, because they know that guys don’t want to sit out a whole season.  As the season approaches there are still many good overseas players who don’t have teams right now because of the “Trickle Down Effect”, guys who have pretty good resumes, who haven’t even gotten a call yet. The market was already bad before the lockout… now it’s worse than those other Keanu Reeves movies you couldn’t think of!  What do you think?
